Internal Family Systems therapy in Chesham and online

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that explores the different “parts” of ourselves - the feelings, thoughts and responses that can sometimes pull us in different directions.

I work predominantly with IFS in my psychotherapy practice in Chesham and online, offering a compassionate space to explore your inner experience at your own pace.

What is Internal Family Systems?

You may recognise moments when one part of you wants something to change, while another feels anxious or holds back. You might also notice a critical inner voice, a need to please others, or a tendency to avoid difficult feelings.

IFS offers a way of getting to know these different parts of yourself and exploring the roles they play in your life. Rather than trying to push unwanted feelings away, the approach invites curiosity about what lies behind them.

The aim is to develop a more compassionate understanding of yourself, including the responses and patterns you may find difficult.

How I use IFS in therapy

Together, we can explore the feelings, thoughts and reactions that arise around the difficulties you are experiencing. We may begin to notice how different parts of you respond and what they might be trying to protect you from.

We work at your pace, allowing time to build trust and understanding. There is no expectation that you should share everything at once or explore something before you feel ready.

My background is in integrative psychotherapy, and I draw on this wider training alongside IFS to respond to your individual needs.

About me and how I work >

What to expect from a session

You don’t need any previous knowledge of IFS. We can begin by talking about what has brought you to therapy and what feels important to you.

During our work, I may invite you to notice particular feelings, thoughts or inner responses and explore them with curiosity. You are welcome to ask questions, say when something feels unfamiliar, or let me know if you would prefer to slow down.
